Choosing a topic

It's January which can only mean one thing in the Heritage Fair world - let's get started with Heritage Fair projects! Now is the time to choose a topic, and the BC Heritage Fair Society's Resources for Students is an excellent place to start:

The main criteria for choosing a topic are that
(1) your topic interests you – you are curious about it;
(2) your topic has lots of sources, both primary and secondary; and
(3) it is important. Even a very local or family topic can be important if you can link it to a larger story in Canadian history.

Things to think about...
  • Are there any anniversaries coming up? In Richmond, 2015 marks the 125th anniversary of the Steveston Post Office and the 50th anniversary of Manoah Steves Elementary School.
  • Are there any special events this year? The Pan-American Games will be in Toronto in 2015. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the Canadian flag.

Good luck!
